Visit North England & Greater Manchester
The beauty of Manchester is its proximity to other fantastic places. Its unofficial title as the capital of the region makes it the ideal base for exploring the north of England. Whether you fancy nipping to neighbouring Liverpool, or fancy something a bit more serene, Manchester is the place from which to discover it.
The Lake District - The Lake District is the UK’s largest national park and is extremely easy to get to from Manchester. If long walks and stunning scenery is your thing, then The Lake District is for you. This beautifully reserved and natural landscape is perfect for tranquil strolls and brisk walks, popular with couples, families, hikers and photographers.
Chester
- Chester is a beautiful and historic town, full of museums, gallery,
shops and restaurants. Just a stone’s throw away from Manchester,
Chester has everything that Manchester has, but on a slightly smaller
scale. The ride to Chester takes an hour and is a must if you’re already
up in the North.
Liverpool
- Did you know that Liverpool is a world heritage site? You do now!
With more listed bildings than any other city in the UK (except for
London), Liverpool is bursting full of history. Liverpool is also famous
for its sporting events, shopping districts and lively social scene, so
if you fancy a change of scenery and don’t want to travel too far,
Liverpool’s the place.
Wigan - The nearby town of Wigan is great for a day out, especially if you don’t fancy travelling too far from Manchester city centre. With a vast array of restaurants, tourist attractions, shops, pubs, museums and nightclubs, Wigan is definitely one not to miss. The Wigan Food Festival is held annually, showcasing and selling the best in locally grown produce, fine wines, beers and luxury cuisine.
Bolton - Bolton is known as the UK’s ‘friendliest town’ - the hometown of legendary comedian Peter Kay as well as a whole host of celebrities and performers. Travel just 40 minutes from Manchester City Centre and you will find brilliant botanic gardens, awesome activity centres and hundreds of historic sites. And with lots of restaurants, cafes and tea shops to rest your weary legs, there’s no excuse not to take a day trip!
